Marine Benefits can pride itself in being the first maritime related member of Transparency International Norway (TI) in Bergen.
We have had the pleasure of having Guro Slettemark, the Secretary General in TI, visiting us. By explaining what we do and with our global exposure, together with the Secretary’s impressive knowledge within the complicated, but very important issue of corruption – we had some interesting conversations.
Even though we do not experience corruption in our everyday life here in Norway, our membership in Transparency International helps to highlight the issue and emphasises that we do not accept corruption.
Transparency International is the global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption. Through more than 100 chapters worldwide and an international secretariat in Berlin, Germany, Transparency International raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption and works with partners in governments, businesses and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it.
Last autumn, TI Norway, NHO and Innovation Norway invited companies from all over Norway to join an anticorruption workshop. More than 20 companies participated, and their sharing of experiences resulted in a comprehensive collection of dilemmas (see link below), containing descriptions and tasks. This is followed up with a hard-copy handbook for the course leader, with reviews of the respective dilemmas.
